(1839, Gyõr - 1898, München) Erzsébet és Mária királynõk Nagy Lajos sírjánál 1385-ben (vázlat) 1862 Olaj, vászon, 77 x 65,5 cm Magyar Nemzeti Galéria, Budapest A gyõri születésû Liezen-Mayer Sándor, rövid hazalátogatásoktól eltekintve, szinte egész életét Münchenben élte le mint az akadémia megbecsült professzora. E korai vázlata, az 1862-ben készült Erzsébet és Mária Nagy Lajos sírjánál c. mûve - Karl Piloty tehetséges tanítványaként - ügyes, bár kissé színpadias komponálónak mutatja: hatásosan ellenpontozza durazzói Kis Károly koronázásának háttéri ragyogását és a Nagy Lajos sírjánál bosszút forraló királynék gyászát. Az 1383-as székesfehérvári esemény késõbb véres harcokat eredményezett, melyekre a festmény vészjósló hangulatával utal. LIEZEN-MAYER, Sándor (1839, Gyõr - 1898, Munich) Queens Elisabeth and Mary at the Tomb of King Lajos the Great in 1385 (sketch) 1862 Oil on canvas, 77 x 65,5 cm Hungarian National Gallery, Budapest Besides a few visits to his home country, Sándor Liezen-Mayer, who was born in Gyõr, spent his entire life in Munich, where he was a much respected professor at the Academy. He painted this study as a young man in Karl Piloty's class in 1862. Queen Elizabeth and Queen Mary at the Sarcophagus of Louis Anjou the Great of Hungary is a courageous, though avowedly theatrical composition built on the contrast between the splendid coronation ceremony of Small Charles of Durazzo, scene in the background, and graveness of the two queens vowing vengeance at the grave of King Louis the Great. The sinister atmosphere of the painting is a reference to the bloody fights resulting from the event depicted, which occurred in 1383 at Székesfehérvár.
